I just finished washing and carding this wool from my sheep. They were sheared the first weekend in March and I am processing all their fleeces myself this year. ALL of them. ALL 19 fleeces. I am loving the way they are turning out too. This batt is gray because I carded the black and white wool from my sheep together. It is so soft. I am selling wool batting in 1 pound batches for $20.00 each. The wool bating can be spun up, needle-felted, or used as batting in wool quilts.<br />

One of the blessings of having a large healthy flock of sheep is the ability to also have lamb for the table. Jacob lambs are a delicacy and we usually have only 2 or 3 I am willing to give up for this purpose. When we do choose to butcher a lamb we also keep the lambskin. <br />

It takes me awhile to make the skin suitable to send off the tanner . ( Bucks County Fur Processing, Inc. ) I have kept the first few lambskins for myself. They make great rugs and throws . However, we now have enough for our own home so I am selling the lambskins on my Etsy shop.<br />

The Christmas Craft Bazaar is over and I sold many <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/MySpottedSheepShop"><i>Wee Little Sheep *.</i></a><i> </i>The little sheep are my best selling item so this time of the year all my spare time ( is there such a thing as spare time ? ) is spent crafting the little sheep.<i> </i><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCQqoZzv3FNGQHaQThybdUZxUD3efcNj6iYBwDWdUDS4a4FzUpdmDX9IHojPIeNA6xpxOXPHA-BNyPC_Z4-Meq0-man7eFJ6vmrdtP9JMGRvPbcD-jfaYZ4UphCp2iF5t0vA8rhxaFqWE/s1600/IMG_1471.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCQqoZzv3FNGQHaQThybdUZxUD3efcNj6iYBwDWdUDS4a4FzUpdmDX9IHojPIeNA6xpxOXPHA-BNyPC_Z4-Meq0-man7eFJ6vmrdtP9JMGRvPbcD-jfaYZ4UphCp2iF5t0vA8rhxaFqWE/s400/IMG_1471.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
The shepherd in the picture is 6" so you can gauge the size and if the little sheep would work for your nativity scene.<br />

I began making these little sheep almost 30 years ago after reading an article in a magazine (no longer in publication ) that described the little sheep Moravians made of clay and wool for their 'putz' , or Nativity scenes. I changed the crafting a bit from the old time Moravians' way making them a bit more sturdy. I believe I've easily made at least 2 thousand of these little sheep and still enjoy it.<br />

<em>My Spotted Sheep Shop </em>is in the process of being updated , but I do have felted balls available <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/cedarpondwoolcraft">now *</a> in my Etsy shop, more to be added soon. I am always making more of these fun felted balls.</div>

Wool felted balls are not only eye-catching as table or shelf décor , they are wonderful as child or cat toys. Many of the balls I felt have jingles inside them making them more interesting to kitties especially. The balls are also great dryer balls. Simply toss them into the dryer with your wet clothes and they keep the laundry separated and static free while the clothes are drying. Unscented, chemical free, and reusable. After use they look good in a basket on the laundry shelf, or back in use as toys !<br />

Just finished spinning up this pink wool from a blend of sheep breed fleeces. Some Jacob sheep, some Polypay sheep, some Romney sheep. I am considering weaving this yarn and a few other yarns I've spun up, into a scarf. Still thinking on it but most likely I'll list it soon in my Etsy shop.<br />

Some of the balls have a jingle in them. If you spray the balls with catnip the cats really have a good time.These wool balls are also good toys for children, they can be used as dryer balls too. Just toss them into the dryer with a load of wet clothes. No fabric softener, or softener sheets are necessary ~ the balls keep the clothes separated, fluff up the clothes, and prevent static cling. Best of all, they can be used over and over again...and played with by the cat & kids in between laundry loads. Each set of 3 balls sells for $15.00, shipping is included in the price within the U.S. If you're interested in purchasing any wool felted balls click <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/cedarpondwoolcraft">HERE*. </a><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Thank-you for taking time to check out my Spotted Sheep Shop !</span></span>KathyB.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13076933273610590290noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8568333536271313381.post-32454983082465555402012-02-24T02:36:00.008-08:002012-02-24T02:55:32.832-08:00Wool Crafting ~ Wee Little Sheep, Felted Dryer Balls, Yarn!<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfJeF5mZZ7Bq0vWNm_GKcxqZqRUPm4eQYzqYPbC14kijk0ecsmpFZ8NQ0tDuxGMP_gJ1J2jbqi1-JdRRxRboJNZgpCLYrJgrsxDIv3noKUkRmcd5ZPwj_tYPh05Npk8BAzRQsfMboxkZY/s1600/etsy+Feb.+2012+013.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfJeF5mZZ7Bq0vWNm_GKcxqZqRUPm4eQYzqYPbC14kijk0ecsmpFZ8NQ0tDuxGMP_gJ1J2jbqi1-JdRRxRboJNZgpCLYrJgrsxDIv3noKUkRmcd5ZPwj_tYPh05Npk8BAzRQsfMboxkZY/s320/etsy+Feb.+2012+013.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5712650704155688642" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:130%;">I have been very busy and a new little flock of sheep occupies my work room.</span><br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbNvr3Rw5ciYYLL1ertuRQUU6-LB9ZgYKtGhsnLdfvL-Gcv_HTMRRU4qyzDjF3m0na3JevIyRm18awFJ_GjDzH0X_8w60ubCkiWsNkg3Bj5RbtDWfGBuHtunayOqtHoO4bdCm9oRnDMmM/s1600/etsy+Feb.+2012+005.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbNvr3Rw5ciYYLL1ertuRQUU6-LB9ZgYKtGhsnLdfvL-Gcv_HTMRRU4qyzDjF3m0na3JevIyRm18awFJ_GjDzH0X_8w60ubCkiWsNkg3Bj5RbtDWfGBuHtunayOqtHoO4bdCm9oRnDMmM/s320/etsy+Feb.+2012+005.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5712650430820958114" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:130%;">There are also a lot of felted wool balls popular for the dryer ( in place of fabric softener sheets ) , as cat toys, and for baby toys. This is my "turkey" yarn, so called because I traded a pair of Midget White turkeys for this Romney fleece and am enjoying spinning it up. This is only my first skein of yarn from the lovely caramel & cream colored wool. If you are ever interested in any of these wool creations and I do not have any listed in my Etsy shop, just e-mail me and I can customize an order for you of felted balls, Wee Little Sheep, or even spin up some yarn for you. <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/cedarpondwoolcraft">Click here *</a> to view what I currently have for sale.Thank-ewe for checking in on my shop!</span>KathyB.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13076933273610590290noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8568333536271313381.post-89987335234782640452012-02-03T13:40:00.000-08:002012-02-03T13:53:51.434-08:00Valentine Sheep & Snowballs<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmQi56ruUgSkmF13HFtGDU79LEXE60F5K2qnubgmpoDI_9tdatshvdpP4HJxdpOjbCXFSruywRq0urMXBzUN165Gm4EzTXNdzBZBpwGpPg3O5RMl7_IagWecaeDs6PStuViFqYVi216hI/s1600/etsy++listings+Feb+2012+003.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmQi56ruUgSkmF13HFtGDU79LEXE60F5K2qnubgmpoDI_9tdatshvdpP4HJxdpOjbCXFSruywRq0urMXBzUN165Gm4EzTXNdzBZBpwGpPg3O5RMl7_IagWecaeDs6PStuViFqYVi216hI/s320/etsy++listings+Feb+2012+003.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5705028122641602898" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:130%;">February is the month of love, celebrated especially on Valentine's Day. I have given my little sheep silver hearts that say "<span style="font-style: italic;">Love",</span> but really, love is never out of season. I like these little adornments so much I am going to add silver hearts to my sheep throughout the year.</span> <span style="font-size:130%;">These sheep can be purchased by clicking <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/cedarpondwoolcraft"><span style="font-style: italic;">here *.</span></a></span><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhleo1eEAHR8dSZQ7YKBGjNYHI2bHlRuEo4QBfI-i0jGmc3BK_PGVV43XS89evZXjQjALh62_-F1HyfivxPigvPk9xhUEnK9STiLdfNiNMOsDXyoOlXd95MTDkBKboCUJZwDcETq3uMl_Y/s1600/etsy++listings+Feb+2012+010.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhleo1eEAHR8dSZQ7YKBGjNYHI2bHlRuEo4QBfI-i0jGmc3BK_PGVV43XS89evZXjQjALh62_-F1HyfivxPigvPk9xhUEnK9STiLdfNiNMOsDXyoOlXd95MTDkBKboCUJZwDcETq3uMl_Y/s320/etsy++listings+Feb+2012+010.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5705027820305847762" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:130%;">I have also been making wool balls from the fleece of my Jacob sheep. These and the wee little sheep are my biggest sellers at bazaars and can be used or displayed throughout the year. The wool balls are perfect for the dryer. Toss them in with a load of wet clothes, no fabric softener sheets needed. The wool ball will keep your laundry separated, fluffed up, and static free. Even better, they can be used over and over again. When not in use for laundry, they also make great cat or baby toys, and even look good placed in a basket or bowl on the table.To purchase these click <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/cedarpondwoolcraft">here *</a> .</span></span><br /><br />Since the storm last month I have been busy cleaning up outside, we have a years' worth of cleaning for all the destruction the ice storm left behind. This leaves me little time indoors, but I spend all my spare time spinning wool into yarn, making more little sheep , weaving and locker-hooking rugs, and having fun crafting new items the wool inspires.
